2012 Tecumseh competitive Cheerleading Packet

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS Athletes are expected to arrive on time. This means being ready to participate when practice starts. All athletes are expected to be at every practice unless coach is notified. Competitive Cheer is a TEAM sport. We do not have a “bench,” and a missing team member affects everyone. If a cheerleader brings a planned absence to her team and they agree on a time to reschedule a practice, no demerit will occur. I am usually very flexible. Athletes are not allowed to participate at practice if they have missed more than half a day of school. Notification is still necessary, and the absence will result in a demerit. Athletes are expected to dress appropriately. The school policy applies to practice, games, and program functions. If an athlete becomes ineligible for academic progress, she will need to turn in her uniform immediately. If an athlete is suspended, there will be a meeting to determine whether she can finish the season, but baring “self-defense,” she will need to turn in her uniform immediately. Athletes are required to bring a pair of tennis shoes to EVERY practice! Athletes are expected to have a positive attitude and follow all school rules at practice. Foul language, rudeness, and bullying will not be accepted. If you cannot comply to this policy you will receive a demerit and if it continues you will be asked to leave practice for the day.

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS, continued… Cheerleaders are expected to participate in team fundraisers to pay for season gymnastics. Should a cheerleader choose NOT to participate, they will be held personally responsible for the cost. Stunting is dangerous and requires ALL of an athlete’s focus. Cheerleaders are expected to stay focused during stunting. Practices are closed to public. Athletes are expected to arrive on time. This means being ready to participate when practice starts. NOT just arriving.

COMPETITION EXPECTATIONS Arrival: – Athletes are expected to arrive on time! – Athletes are expected to be ready to go with ALL uniform parts! This includes bows, shoes, poms, and warm ups. – Athletes are expected to be ready to participate upon arrival. – Athletes are expected to participating in pre-game stretching led by the coach. This is also the time for any questions or concerns. – Following stretching athletes are expected to be ready to warm up stunting, any cheers that may need work, stunt enhancements, and quarter/halftime performances. – Athletes are expected to sit together during competitions. If bags are kept at bleachers, they should be kept at feet. It is our goal to be as “together” as possible.

COMPETITION EXPECTATIONS CONTINUED Post-competition: – Athletes are expected to be positive after every competition no matter the outcome. – Athletes are expected to clean up their area and take home any containers and left-over food they brought. – Athletes are expected to wait to leave until after a brief post-competition team meeting led by the coach. – Athletes are expected to ride the bus to all competitions unless indicated otherwise by the coach. The ride home is the responsibility of the cheerleader. Any plans otherwise must submitted in writing prior to game day with parent signature.

Level Expectations: Varsity: Back handspring, walkover JV: Cartwheel, Round Off TMS: Gymnastic ability ADDITIONALLY (all levels): grades, attitude, attendance, teamwork, sharpness, voice, visual presence.
