6 Work Descriptions Safety coordination plan defines each job classification Confined Space Specialists: Bp asked for a solution / CS delivered Specialists enter confined spaces Perform Confined Space surveys Monitor for compliance Make corrective actions on at risk observations Issue on the spot awards/incentives

7 Work Descriptions (cont) Work descriptions include job site classifications: Project Managers, Supervisors and Leads Permit and Confined Space Specialists Safety Attendants Ground Support Bp played a role to new classifications Work descriptions: Give clear understanding of expectations for the employee Accountability in their job performance Good results that equals client satisfaction

8 Permit Verification Process We assure that tasks must have a job specific checklist completed before the work begins Communication specific to the hazards on the checklist The checklist is broken up into 7 sections

9 Permit Verification Process 1. General Information- Permit description, date, time, equipment #, type of permit, emergency alarms, evacuation assembly areas etc 2. (PPE) Requirements 3. Permit Requirements- Continuous monitoring, sewers & drains covered, spark containment etc

10 Permit Verification Process (cont) 4. Scaffold User Inspection 5. Fall Protection Requirements 6. Additional Hazards 7. Signatures- Each crew member, the crew leader and the supervisor Conclusion : 8. Allows the entire crew to discuss the hazards of the task 9. Ensures permit requirements have been evaluated, satisfied, and understood

11 Performing Task Specific Surveys Types of surveys conducted: Authorization-to-work (ATW) Hot Work Permits Safety Specific Confined Space Entry

12 Performing Task Specific Surveys (cont) Each survey monitors the compliance of that particular task procedure Make corrective actions Document survey findings Findings as a learning lesson for everyone

13 Performing Task Specific Surveys (cont) Task specific surveys are completed by: Safety Coordinators Confined Space Auditors Permit Specialists Supervisors Craftsman Bp volunteers from all departments

14 How the process worked Our safety specialists developed an auditing program to evaluate each work process and task assignment Daily/shift safety reporting to the project and owner On-the-spot/hourly/daily/shift feedback with coaching and corrective measures

15 What This Means Even though we grew in a short time, preparing for change allowed us to keep our processes in check Our management infrastructure grew in proportion to the size of our field growth As projects were added, we recruited, trained, and managed the process

16 What’s Ahead CertifiedSafety will continue to grow Through lessons learned and owner/general contractor feedback, we will meet requirements and expectations of those we serve
