Bessemer process allowed steel to be produced cheaply, and steel became the major building material. Chemists created hundreds of new products such as aspirin to perfumes, soaps and dynamite. Large scale companies came to dominate industries like steel. They formed corporation and created monopolies to control entire areas of the economy.
