Troubleshooting basics.

Objective  Upon completion of this presentation attendees will be able to perform basic troubleshooting of their (and their students’) devices.

How do I fix?  My device says “No Login Servers Available”  Make sure the wifi is on.  Plug the device into a blue cord into the wall and log in. After that you should be able to login wirelessly.  If this doesn’t work, put a ticket in for it to be reimaged

How do I fix?  I can’t see the networked drives.  Try these fixes, in order:  1. Log off/back on  2. Restart your machine  3. Get a new IP address, and then restart. (Windows key + R, type “ipconfig /renew”

How do I fix?  My icons are really big/really small  On the desktop screen, place three fingers on the touch pad. Keep one stationary and “pinch” the other two to zoom in and out.

How do I fix?  My touchpad stopped working.  Look at the touchpad. If you see a light in the upper left hand corner, gently and quickly double tap the light to unlock.

How do I fix?  I can’t make my device project to ____.  The device can only output to 2 screens at once. Dock your computer to see the projector and the monitor. Your device must be closed.

How do I fix?  I only have 2 screens but I can’t see anything.  Hold the Windows key and press P.  Choose “Duplicate.”

How do I fix?  There is no sound  Look at the lower right of your screen, Is the speaker on? Double click to adjust your volume. **this is sometimes disabled on student logins. If so, login using your credentials, adjust the sound, and re-log them in.  Make sure external speakers are plugged into the device and turned on.

How do I fix?  My students screen is upside down/flipped left/flipped right  Press control-alt-up arrow at the same time.  This typically happens to the Dell computers.

How do I fix?  I can’t find Chrome, Word, or another program.  Click the start button to get to the tile screen  Start typing in the name of the program and it will appear on the right hand side. Click on it when the name appears.

How do I fix?  My device suddenly won’t boot up/says no boot disk installed.  You have an USB drive installed. Remove the USB drive and restart.  The device will not boot up with a USB drive plugged in.

Reminders  Students MUST use their login. Do not let them login in using generic (5a, k1, etc) logins. They cannot access BCPSOne and other resources using those logins.  Student logins are on the shared drive. For new students not on the list please email Mr. Miley and he will get you their login.

Reminders  It is our responsibility to monitor students on the computers. We have many missing keys or otherwise damaged. This is preventable!  Students should be assigned computers in the lab or classroom in order to keep accountability.  Students should never be given free reign on the internet. You should provide them with start pages or direct links.

Reminders  If you need help with start pages or adding direct links to BCPSOne please see Mr. Schultz!
