No adding Chrome, or Firefox. o No saving of non-class material (ie: pics and other homework) o No printing homework, assignments or reviews for other classes o No downloading anything without my prior approval!!

4 Computer Rules BASIC RULES BASIC RULES 3.DO NOT KEEP WORK ON DESKTOP o Store your photo and text files directly in your page folders on the Yearbook alias. o Store InDesign page files in the deadline folders on the Yearbook alias drive! o The only exceptions are audio/video files. o Do not save any files that are not related to instruction in this class. o Do not go into other students folders … never delete anyones work (even if its on desktop accidentally). o If something is left open by a student before you, simply close it out for them.

8 Mac Lab 101 Things you need to know about these computers: Things you need to know about these computers: o They are not connected to the school server. We have our own server for the computers in this room. To log into computers, turn them on Select YEARBOOK as the User > the password is LEGEND o They are connected to printers o NEVER DELETE or even alter any other class or students folders! o Mouse has left and right clickability

9 Mac Lab 101 Things you need to know about these computers: Things you need to know about these computers: o We can operate on blue cord Ethernet. o Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT), Final Cut Pro, Garage Band and others. o Keep all accessed material instruction-centered and school appropriate. This IS NOT play time! o No messing around in Photo Booth and YouTube. No social networking and games. If you have time to do that during class, you have time to do it at 3:15 during detention. o I will monitor your computer work closely and I will check history! This is not the fun surf the web free computer time class. o Anyone in violation of this or any other rules will loose privileges and face school consequences! Remember, 7am detentions! o Consider this your warning! I will not be tolerant!!

12 Mac Lab 101 1.*To start the computer, click on the mouse or keyboard to bring out of sleep. If the machine is off, hold down the power button on the back left for a second and wait for machine to boot. 2.*To put to sleep, click on the Apple button and select sleep or push the power button on the back. 3.*To turn off, click on Apple button and selection shut down. Then, click shut down again. 4.*If your mouse or keyboard disconnect, try turning them off, then back on. 5.*If your mouse or keyboard give you a message that batteries are low, keep working until they die, then tell me. 6.*If a program locks up, try right clicking on the program icon in the dock and selecting force quit. 7.*If your computer locks up, try holding down the power button on the back and re-booting. 8.*To print, just select print – the computer is already mapped to the B/W printer in the room. 9.*When using external USB drives, plug them into the back left of the machine. An icon for your device should show on the desktop. If not, you can go to the finder icon on the dock and look for your device under devices on the lower left hand side of the finder window. 10.*When you are done with an external USB device, right click on its icon on the desktop and selecteject, or hit the eject button next to the device on the left side of the finder window.

13 Mac Lab 101 Apple Menu: Apple Menu: o The Apple Menu is used solely for access to System Preferences, Shutdown, Restart, Logout and other Finder preferences.

14 Mac Lab 101 The Dock: The Dock: o The Dock is where applications are.

15 Mac Lab 101 The Desktop: The Desktop: o The Desktop is where the link to the alias will be. There will also be a link to the ExtendScript ToolKit

16 Mac Lab 101 Finder: Finder: o Where you find applications, files (documents, videos, photos, etc), and plugged in devices. Anything on your Mac can be found here. Its like your search window. When unplugging a device on a Mac, you must eject it! Tip: If you misplaced a file or dont know where you saved it, open finder and enter a keyword in the search field. Thus, you should always label your work with your name and a keyword. Thats seems easy and logical enough, right? Label it right when you begin by saving your file. Then save frequently in case a computer crashes! Its as simple as going to FILE > SAVE. Or, clicking COMMAND + S on the keyboard. Do it early and often!

17 Mac Lab 101 Open the alias folder on the desktop and FINDER will open to show subfolders within that folder. Find your folder and work within. Double click to open a project. You can also access downloads, applications and external devices on the left side of FINDER If you have trouble connecting to the alias drive, ask Mr. Capp for help.

20 Mac Lab 101 To Delete a File: To Delete a File: o Drag it to the trash can in the dock or right click on the file and select Move to Trash. o If your file is missing or you accidentally deleted it, always open the trash can and find it in there. It wont truly be deleted from the computer until the trash is emptied. o Dont empty the trash. I will do that!
