MANUAL DRAFTING SETUP Introduction to Drafting and Design

PAPER SETUP

Paper Sizes The size of paper that you choose depends on the drawing that is to be placed on the paper Dimensioning, detail, size of object Size Designation Size in inches VerticalHorizontal A8.511 B 17 C 22 D 34 E 44 F2840

Paper-Size Title Blocks Size A paper Does not have the room to have a traditional title block Sizes B - F The title block is placed at the bottom of the page

Size A Title block Follow these steps: Sketch construction lines approximately ½” from the edge of the paper on each side of the paper Trace over the construction lines to create the border lines Add two “title lines”, one at the top of the page and the other at the bottom of the page These “title lines” are created by drawing two construction lines 1/8” apart

Size A Title Block Information in the title block School or Class name Top left side of the paper Date Top right side of the paper Drawer’s name Bottom left side of the paper Drawing number Bottom right side of the paper When writing the number include the drawing number as well as the total number of drawings (i.e. Drawing 2 of 8)

Size A Title Block

Other Title Blocks A more detailed title block can be used for Size A paper that will contain a small drawing All other sheet sizes These title blocks include the following information Name of the school School Location Title of Drawing Your name Scale Date Drawing number Class name

Title Blocks To create more in-depth title blocks, follow these steps: Begin with the sheet layout by drawing a ½” border Draw another line ½” above the bottom border line to create the title block Then split the “box” that was created into four sections that looks like this The exact measurements of the boxes will vary depending on the size of the paper that is used

Title Blocks Once you have the box split, divide up even more. Divide by creating more horizontal lines at 1/16” and 1/8” increments. 1/16” 1/8”

Title Block Information Add this information in the title blocks in this order Name of School School Location Title of Drawing Name Date Scale Class Name 3 of 6 Drawing Number

ENTITY PROPERTIES

Layers In the beginning of manual drafting, do not use layers. In advanced manual drafting, the layers are drawn on thin paper and overlaid with other drawings to create a completed drawing.

Color Certain items can have color added to show emphasis or make objects stand out. In architectural drawings, plants can be colored green to show the distinction between the building and the natural items. Lines are drawn in different colors to make the drawing easier to read. Dimension lines are red. Hidden lines are green or black. Center lines are green. Construction lines are blue. Extension lines are red. All other lines are black.

Line Type For the line types of each entity, refer to the Alphabet of Lines presentation.

In summary… In this presentation, we learned: How to choose the correct paper size. How to create simple and traditional title blocks. How to change an entities’ properties, such as: Layer Color Line type
