Work Package 2 Coordination with EGEE activities Marco Verlato (INFN-Padova) CYCLOPS Review 26 October 2007 Bruxelles, Belgium

2 Layout INFN role in the project WP2 objectives WP2 results and future plans List of Deliverables Conclusions

3 INFN role in the project INFN is involved in several EU and National Grid projects (EGEE-II, EGI-DS, OMII-Europe, EUMed/China/IndiaGrid, EELA, BioinfoGRID, IGI, LIBI, etc.) INFN is leading the Middleware Engineering activity in EGEE-II (and its successor EGEE-III) INFN is involved in all of the 5 WPs of the CYCLOPS project Its main role in CYCLOPS is leading the WP2, i.e. coordinating with the EGEE activities A significant role played in WP4 too, i.e. defining research and innovation strategies for a e- infrastructure for Civil Protection applications

4 WP2 objectives From the DoW: CYCLOPS main goal is “to bridge the gap between Grid and CP communities” WP2 aims “to carry out CP and Grid communities inter-dissemination” (project objective 5) Operational goals: “Tutorial on EGEE platform for Civil Protection agencies” “Civil Protection framework and EGEE coordination”  to establish a two way communication channel between CYCLOPS and EGEE projects

5 WPs Interdependencies Management Civil Protection system Analysis Dissemination and Exploitation Research & Innovation Strategy Definition Full time coverage of the CYCLOPS core activities carried out by WP3 and WP4

6 Start date: PM3 Duration: 18 Months WP Leader: INFN Tasks: – T2.1: Dissemination and tutorial of the EGEE middleware to the Civil Protection community – T2.2: Civil Protection Framework and EGEE middleware evolution coordination Effort in Person Months: 21.5 WP2 tasks Part. 7 7 Task 2.1 activities so far T2.1: Dissemination and tutorial of the EGEE middleware to the Civil Protection community – Talk about EGEE platform at Project Open Conference in June 2006 – Writing the Training Event Plan and the EGEE Cookbook for Civil Protection users – 1 st CYCLOPS Training Workshop held in Bologna the 11- 13 April 2007 Agenda and training material available under the “Events” menu of the project web site www.cyclops-project.euwww.cyclops-project.eu A complete report is available in the First Training Workshop (D10) document

8 The GILDA Project (https://gilda.ct.infn.it) 15 sites in 3 continents > 2800 certificates issued, >15% renewed at least once > 100 tutorials and demos performed in 21 months > 1,000,000 hits (> 50,000 unique visits) on (of) the web site from 10’s of different countries > 0.6 TB of training material downloaded from the web site

9 The First Training Workshop It suffered the delay in the transfer of funds from EC to DPC and from this to Partners (ANPC and TEI-CR could not attend) Delivered at PM11 (April ‘07) instead of PM7 14 participants (DPC, EMA, CNR-IMAA and INFN represented) First half day of workshop on CYCLOPS activities, then grid tutorial with theory and hands-on Positively evaluated by participants through questionnaire

10 Task 2.1 results and future plans Measure of success according to DoW: – Number of training events  1 – Number of attendees at training events  14 – Questionnaire for self-evaluation of training events  average score = 5/6 (1:poor, 2:insufficient, 3:fair, 4:good, 5:very good, 6:excellent) Plans for next period: – DPC/IMAA/INFN team attending the “INFN School for porting new applications to grid”, 12-23 November 2007 – the goal is to port RISICO application to grid – the next training workshop, to be held close to a CP community event to broaden the audience, will include the RISICO porting experience as a practical example

11 Task 2.2 activities so far T2.2: Civil Protection Framework and EGEE middleware evolution coordination – Talk at EGEE’06 Conference in Geneva, 27 September 2006 – Participation to periodical EGEE-ITF phone meetings – Set up of cyclops VO services and resources on Grid. It, with CNR-IMAA Registration Authority of INFN CA – Technical Expert Group (TEG) meeting with Bob Jones (EGEE leader) and all partners in Rome, 30 November 2006 – Several technical meetings with WP3 and WP4 partners – Supporting the grid implementation of a WCS prototype – Supporting the grid implementation of RISICO prototype – Talk at OGF20 in Manchester, 7 May 2007 – Talk at EGEE User Forum in Manchester, 11 May 2007 – Poster at EGEE’07 Conference in Budapest, 1-5 October 2007
