4 What the Course Covers The Four Major Components of AP Stat Experimental Design Students design appropriate experiments in order to draw conclusions that can be generalized to the population of interest. Students will also interpret studies and experiments to determine whether the conclusions from the studies warrant consideration. Exploring Data Students collect and examine data and display the patterns that emerge. Data from students in class as well as real world data sets are gathered and used to illustrate concepts. Producing Models Using Probability and Simulation Students learn to anticipate patterns and produce models for prediction. Students use simulations to model situations that are not practical to replicate using other methods. Statistical Inference Students learn what can be generalized about the population. Students also consider how to investigate research questions, design a study, and interpret the results.

6 THE EXAM The AP Statistics Exam is 3 hours long. The exam consists of (1) a 90-minute multiple-choice section (2) a 90-minute free-response section This section requires the student to answer open-ended questions and to complete an investigative task involving more extended reasoning. In the determination of the score for the exam, the two sections will be given equal weight.

8 Formative Assessment This is ongoing. Every class this is taking place. I observe your participation in class, looking for things like your preparation, your willingness to ask and answer questions, and completion of class and homework tasks. Every other day you will have a homework quiz. This will be a 5 to 15 minute exercise and will cover the work covered in the previous class. You might even get a question that was one of the assigned homework questions from the previous lesson. This Formative Assessment helps me allocate you semester grade.
