1 How Do You Get Diabetes and How Do You Prevent It? By: Shaeah Woods

2 History Discovered 2,000 years ago. Know as Deadly and Harmful Aretaeus recognized the symptoms, but was powerless to treat it Dr. Thomis Willis (A 17 th century london physician) determined whether his patients got diabetes or not. In 1921 Frederick Bantung, Dr. Collip, and Dr. Macleod found something to fix blood sugar levels. In 1935 Roger Hinsworth discovered that there are 2 types of diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2.

3 Types of Diabetes Type 1: Type 1 Diabetes is where your body doesn’t produce any insulin. You get type 1 Diabetes from genes. 5%-10% of people who have diabetes have type 1. About 95,000 teens have this disease. Type 2: Type two is where your body still produces some insulin, but it has trouble doing so. People of any age can get this disease. 90% of people who have diabetes have type 2.

4 Medication The medicine for diabetes helps you produce enough insulin for your body and aids your body in using cells more efficiently. The side affects that go with the medicine you take is gas, bloating, upset stomach, diarrhea, and a small appetite. The responsibilities that come with diabetes is remembering to take your medication, being careful what you eat, and paying close attention to you blood sugar level.

5 Preventage – Staying Active Exercise an hour a day to stay healthy. If you exercise your blood sugar level drops. Your metabolism will quicken. You fat will be burned, therefore it will bring you more confidence, too. When you exercise daily your muscles become firmer and your bones become stronger. Exercise will also improve your action of insulin.

6 Preventage – Healthy Weight If you are over weight, your blood sugar level isn’t balanced. Your insulin also decreases if your heavy. If you are heavy make sure you stay active and have healthy eating habits.

7 Preventage – Eating Sensible If you are eating healthy, then your weight will go down, increasing your insulin production to an average rate. Eating sensible will also increase confidence. Your chances for diseases/disorders will lessen when you have healthy eating habits.

8 Preventage – Manage Health To prevent diabetes you may need to have regular checkups at the doctor to make sure you are healthy and to see if you have any viruses in your body.

9 Problems of Eating Bad Food Bad foods usually have an enormous amount of sugar in them causing your blood sugar level to rise. Also if you eat a lot of sugar and unhealthy foods you can become obese, which leads to diabetes. Bad foods can invite in obesity. Bad foods have a lack of vitamin B6.
