2. We are learning to: Write procedures to explain to others how to do something or how something works.

3. What is a procedure: A Piece of writing to tell an audience what to do and how to do it.

4. Where do we find procedures? Procedures include: recipes, operating booklets first aid instruction timetables experiments etc. You may also read procedures in letters and stories.

5. Procedures include……. Many procedures include: a GOAL (how to do, make or prepare something), MATERIALS (like ingredients or parts), METHOD (list of steps) and a COMMENT Recipe Experiment Operating Booklet

8. Success criteria: We will know we have written a good procedure when we have: Written steps in a sequenced order. Included a labelled diagrams / photos / illustrations. Added subtitles. used bullet points, symbols, a flow chart, sentences, numbered steps, paragraphs… been specific. Included a title (appropriate, interesting). Included a goal or purpose. A list of materials needed. Included method-list of steps. Commented on the final product / process… Instructions are clear, concise and the goal are easily achievable

11. Class Cameo: Done as Mrs Shaw demonstrated the procedure Very Bad Oats and Chocolate Chip Cookies (Title) Goal Once you sink your teeth into this crunchy delight you cannot stop. An old favourite energising Kiwis watching world cup rugby matches early in the morning. You will enjoy this tasty treat of chock chips and oats. Equipment: Bowl, measuring jug, spoons, measuring spoons, baking tray, baking paper. Ingredients 250g soft butter, ¾ cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons (Tbs) of condensed milk, 1 ½ cup of plain flour, 1 teaspoon (tsp) baking powder, 1 cup oats, 250g chocolate melts

12. Task 2 Plan and write a procedure of your choice. How to make a healthy sandwich / smoothy. How download photos from a digital camera. How to do an ollie / pitch a tent. How to change a wheel / prepare a snowboard What to do when you cut your finger. Include digital photo’s to support your writing. Explain the process to the class using your writing and the photo. Do this task at home and e-mail it to school / bring it in on a memory stick.

14. Steps 1. Wash hands 2. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. 3. Put softened butter in bowl. 4. Add sugar and condensed milk 5. Cream it – beat it to make it light and fluffy (get air in – mix ingredients, melt butter and sugar) 6. Measure flour and add to mixture. 7. Measure and add 1tsp baking powder, cup of oats and chocolate 8. Stir thoroughly to mix all ingredients evenly. 9. Cut baking paper to size – to fit on baking tray. 10. Scoop small portions onto the baking tray – not to close as each scoop will spread out. 11. Pop in the oven – middle shelve for about 15-20 minutes checking it regularly to prevent it from burning. Tips: 1. Freeze the remainder of the condensed milk after making little bags of 3Tbs. 2. Raisins, apricots or berries might be used instead of chocolate.
