5 Homework (Unit 6 Worksheet 1)
Constant Acceleration: Constant Velocity:

6 Unit 6 Worksheet 1 Answers
1. a. Δy = -45m b. t = 2.5s c. t = 7.7s d. Vfy = -37.4m/s 2. a. Vfy = -40m/s b. t = 4s 3. a. Vfy = -60m/s b. Δy = -180m a. a = -10m/s/s b. Δy = -160m c. t = 3s d. Vfy = -49m/s

7 Projectile Motion Projectile – objects that are thrown or launched into the air ( have an initial velocity) and are subject to gravity. Examples: bullet, missile, basketball shot, a long jumper, car, etc… Treat 2-D motion problems as two separate 1-D motion problems.

8 Horizontally Launched Projectile

9 Horizontally Launched Projectiles
1. Find Vx and Vy for each second… 2. Find the resultant velocities 3. Find Δx and Δy for each second… Vx = 10m/s 1s 2s 3s 4s 5s 6s

10 The Plane and the Package

11 Example Problem #1 V = 30mi/hr 14m/s 6m Δx = ?
A snowboarder is launched horizontally with an initial velocity of 14m/s. The snowboarder is 6m off of the ground… A. What time does it take for the snowboarder to hit the ground? B. How far does he go horizontally before hitting the ground. 6m Δx = ?

12 Example Problem #2 Vx = ? 3m 7m
How fast must a motorcycle be moving to clear a 7m horizontal gap if the landing surface is 3m lower than the launch surface. Hint: 1st find the time the motorcycle is in the air. Vx = ? 3m 7m

13 Monday, January 28th Put your homework (U6 Worksheet 2) on your desk to be checked for completion.
Vx= 10m/s 3m Δx = ?

14 Worksheet 2 Answers 1a. b. c. tfall = 0.77s and Δx = 7.7m Vx= 10m/s 3m
FN Fg Fg c. tfall = 0.77s and Δx = 7.7m

15 Worksheet 2 Answers 2a. tfall = 1.09s, Vx = 4.59m/s b. Vfx = 4.59m/s and Vfy= -10.9m/s c. Vfy = 11.8m/s Vx= ? 6m Vx=4.59m/s 5m Vy=-10.9m/s V=11.8m/s

16 Whiteboard Problem If the mountain biker, initially traveling at 9m/s, lands 7m horizontally away from the edge of the cliff, how high is the cliff? Vx=9m/s h = ? 7m

17 “Stunt Double “ |Design Challenges|

18 Challenge #1 (Pad Location)
B A Vx H1 Δx = ?

19 “Stunt Double “ |Design Challenges|
