1 Lesson 2: Being British

2 Learning Objectives To understand the meaning of national identity and culture, and that Britain is a multi-cultural country. Learning Outcomes To have interviewed each other about what it means to be British. To have participated in a class discussion about being British, and defined some key terms. To have made a poster about the positive parts of life in Britain.

3 Starter Activity (10 minutes)
Using some of the pictures for ideas, take it in turns to interview each other, asking the following question: ‘What does it mean to be British?’

4 Key Definitions British national: A group of people who are connected in some way. Multicultural community: People who share local interests because of where they live. Cultural diversity: The range of different groups that make up a wider population.

5 Design a poster entitled ‘What it means to be British’
Think about famous British people, food, sport, and different cultures to get some ideas. This will be completed for homework and handed in on Friday 29th September.
