3  North Korea launched surprise attack in June 1950  South Korea’s Capital – Seoul – fell in 4 days

4  United Nations forces stop the attack briefly  North Korea pushes the U.N. forces to edge of South Korea

5  U.S. troops become involved heavily and under General MacArthur make a daring landing in Inchon

6  Surprise tactic works and the North Koreans are pushed back quickly

7  Americans were warned to stay away from the Yalu region, or risk an all out war with China and the Soviet Union

8  MacArthur believed the Chinese were bluffing and kept going- bringing the Chinese and Soviets into the war….oops!

9  Truman fired MacArthur for not listening and for sending a letter to a Congress- man criticizing Truman’s decision making abilities.

10  After a see-saw battle, the war finally ended in July 1953 at the 38 th Parallel and a more than 2 mile demilitarized zone.
