Causes of European Exploration God The Crusades: A series of religious wars that were fought between Christians and Muslims during the Medieval Era Europeans were devoted to spreading Christianity (wanted to convert people)

Think Like an Explorer… If you were influenced by the idea of “Gold, Glory, and God”, what would you need to travel to the New World?

Technology Increases During the Age of Exploration new inventions increased and aided exploration Europeans began to build stronger and faster sailing ships Canons could be put on the decks of these ships for protection Caravel- a ship with two sails one each for running with the wind and for sailing into the wind.

Technology Increases Better navigational instruments were invented Astrolabe: could tell north and south of the equator by the position of the stars Magnetic compass: told directions more accurately
