A15-POV-Never Mowed the Lawn Hello, I’m Joe Weiss, and I would like to welcome you to our point of view lesson. So today I’m going to tell you the same story that we had in our mini-story lesson, but I’m going to tell you it from three different points of view. So same story, but three different ways to tell it. So first, I want to tell you the story as if it’s happening right now, in the present. So let’s start.

There is a man and his name is Jim Carrey. And Jim Carrey is rich. He has a lot of money. And he lives in an expensive house. And he has a very big yard. But Jim Carrey never mows the lawn. He never cuts the grass. And he refuses to hire someone to mow the lawn. So the grass in Jim Carrey’s yard grows very tall. It is more than 15 feet tall. It’s very tall. But Jim Carrey still refuses to mow the lawn.

Well, Jim Carrey has a dog and his dog’s name is Pablo. And he loves Pablo, he loves him. Pablo is his best friend. And Pablo lives in the house with Jim Carrey. He even has his own bed in the house. But Pablo also likes to go outside. So one day Pablo goes outside. He goes into the yard and he runs all around the yard. He runs for two hours. And after he finishes running he is very tired.

So he wants to go into the house and lay in his bed. But there is a problem. Pablo is unable to find the house. He is unable to find the house because the grass is too tall. So he is unable to see the house. So Pablo barks and he barks and he barks. Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof. He barks. He barks because he wants Jim Carrey to find him and bring him into the house.

So Jim Carrey hears Pablo barking and he goes into the yard and he looks for Pablo. But he is unable to find Pablo. He is unable to find Pablo because the grass is too tall. So he is unable to see Pablo. But he still refuses to mow the lawn. But he knows that Pablo needs food each day. So every day Jim Carrey throws food into the yard for Pablo. He throws him seven hamburgers each day.

Well, Brad Pitt lives next door to Jim Carrey. But I have some more information for you. Brad Pitt and Jim Carrey do not get along. No, they don’t. You see they do not get along because Jim Carrey’s dog, Pablo, barks all night long. So Brad Pitt is unable to sleep at night. He is unable to sleep at night because Pablo barks all night long.

Well, Brad Pitt wants Jim Carrey to mow the lawn. So he asks Jim Carrey to mow the lawn but Jim Carrey refuses to mow the lawn. So Brad Pitt has another idea. He decides to try to bribe Jim Carrey to mow the lawn. So he tells Jim Carrey that he can pay him $2,678 if he mows the lawn. But Jim Carrey refuses. He refuses to mow the lawn. So Brad Pitt is unable to bribe Jim Carrey into mowing the lawn.

Well, that year the weather in the month of July is very hot. It’s very hot. And it does not rain for ten months. So the grass in Jim Carrey’s yard is dry as a bone. So one day during that month a man drives his car past Jim Carrey’s house. And the man is smoking a cigarette. And the man does not want the cigarette anymore so he throws the cigarette out of the car. And the cigarette goes into Jim Carrey’s yard. And the cigarette is still lit. So the grass in Jim Carrey’s yard goes up in flames, yeah!

In just five minutes all of the grass burns so there’s no grass anymore. And guess what else burns? Jim Carrey’s house! Jim Carrey’s house burns. But Jim Carrey is not upset or angry, no. He is happy. And the reason he’s happy is because he sees Pablo. And Pablo runs to him and jumps in his arms and he licks his face. So he’s happy because he knows that Pablo is safe.

Well, two months later Jim Carrey purchases a new house. And he and Pablo live in that house. And every Sunday they mow the lawn together. Okay, so that’s our first version of the story. This one, I just told you, was told in the present. So that’s our first point of view story.

Next, I’m going to tell you the story as if it’s told in the future. So let’s think now. Pretend it’s seven years from now. Okay, let’s start with the story.

Seven years from now there’s going to be a man and his name is going to be Jim Carrey. And Jim Carrey is going to be rich. Yeah, he’s going to be rich. And he’s going to own an expensive house. He’s going to live in an expensive house, too. And he will have a big yard. But Jim Carrey will never mow the lawn. And he’s going to refuse to hire someone to mow the lawn. So the grass is going to grow very tall. The grass will be more than 15 feet tall, very tall. But he still is going to refuse to mow the lawn.

Well, Jim Carrey’s going to have a dog and the dog will be named Pablo. And Jim Carrey is going to love his dog. Pablo will be his best friend. And Pablo will live in the house with Jim Carrey. And he will also have his own bed in the house. And, y’know, he’s going to sleep in the bed. But Pablo will also love to go outside. So one day Pablo’s going to go out to the yard. And he’s going to run in the yard for a long time. For two hours he will run in the yard. And he’s going to finish running and, of course, he’s going to be tired.

So Pablo will want to go in the house and he’s going to want to lay in his bed. But Pablo will be unable to find the house, yeah. He’s going to be unable to find the house because the grass is going to be too tall. So Pablo will be unable to see the house. Well, Pablo is going to bark, he’s going to bark more, and he’s going to bark even more than that. He’s going to bark because he’s going to want Jim Carrey to find him and bring him into the house.

So Jim Carrey’s going to hear Pablo bark. So Jim Carrey will go into the yard and he will look for Pablo. He will look for him for a long time. But he’s going to be unable to find him. He will be unable to find Pablo because the grass is going to be too tall. So you would think that Jim Carrey will want to mow the lawn, right? No! He still refuses to mow the lawn. He will refuse to the lawn, excuse me. He still will refuse to mow the lawn. But he will know that Pablo will be hungry every day. So every day he’s going to throw food into the yard for Pablo.

He’s going to throw seven hamburgers into the yard for Pablo every day. Well, Brad Pitt is going to live next door to Jim Carrey. And Brad Pitt and Jim Carrey will not get along with each other, no. They will not get along with each other. They will not get along with each other because Jim Carrey’s dog, Pablo, is going to bark all night long every night. So Brad Pitt will be unable to sleep at night. He will be unable to sleep at night because Pablo is going to bark all night long every night.

Well, Brad Pitt is going to want Jim Carrey to mow the lawn. So he’s going to ask Jim Carrey to mow the lawn. But Jim Carrey will refuse to mow the lawn. So Brad Pitt’s going to have another idea. Brad Pitt will try to bribe Jim Carrey into mowing the lawn. So Brad Pitt will tell Jim Carrey that he will pay him $2,678 if he will mow the lawn. But Jim Carrey will still refuse to mow the lawn. And he will refuse to hire someone to mow the lawn. So Brad Pitt will be unable to bribe Jim Carrey into mowing the lawn.

Well, the month of July will be very hot. It’s going to be very hot, the weather’s going to be very hot. And it will not have rained for ten months. So the grass in Jim Carrey’s yard is going to be dry as a bone. Well, one day that month of July, a man is going to drive his car past Jim Carrey’s house. And he’s going to be smoking a cigarette. But he’s not going to want the cigarette anymore. He’s going to be finished with the cigarette. So he’s going to throw the cigarette out of the car. And it’s going to go into Jim Carrey’s yard. And the cigarette’s still going to be lit. So guess what’s going to happen? The grass in Jim Carrey’s yard is going to go up in flames, yeah.

In just five minutes all of the grass will burn. So there will be no grass in his yard, none. And guess what else is going to burn? Jim Carrey’s house! Jim Carrey’s house is also going to burn. And after his house will burn, Jim Carrey is not going to be upset. He’s not going to be angry. He’s going to be happy. He will be happy because he will see Pablo and Pablo will run to him and lick him on the cheek. So he will know that Pablo is safe.

Well, two months later Jim Carrey’s going to buy a new house for he and Pablo to live in. And every Sunday, Jim Carrey and Pablo are going to mow the lawn together. Okay, I hope you enjoyed that. That was our second version of the story. It’s the second time I’m telling you a story from our mini-story with a different point of view for the story.

So now I want to tell you the story one more time. This time I’m going to change the point of view so Jim Carrey is telling the story. So you’re going to have to pretend that I’m Jim Carrey, okay? Alright, so pretend now and let’s start with the story.

Hello, I’m Jim Carrey. And I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me some time in the past. See, at that time I was rich. And I lived in an expensive house. And I had a very big yard. But I never mowed the lawn. And I refused to hire someone to mow the lawn. So the grass grew very tall. The grass was taller than 15 feet. So it was very tall. But I still refused to mow the lawn.

Well, at that time I had a dog and my dog’s name was Pablo. And I really loved Pablo. He was my best friend. And Pablo lived in the house with me. He even had his own bed and he slept in the bed. Well, although Pablo lived in the house with me, he still loved to go outside. So one day Pablo went outside and he ran in the yard. He ran for two hours. And after two hours he was finished running and he was tired.

So he wanted to go into the house and lay down in his bed. But there was a problem. Pablo was unable to find the house. He was unable to find the house because the grass was too tall. So he was unable to see the house. Well, Pablo barked and he barked and he barked. Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof. He barked and he barked even more. He barked because he wanted me to find him and then bring him into the house.

Well, I heard Pablo barking so I went out into the yard and I looked for him. And I looked for a long time. But I was unable to find Pablo. I was unable to find him because the grass was too tall. So I knew that if the grass was not so tall, if it was shorter, if I mowed the lawn, I would be able to find him. But I still refused to mow the lawn. I did not want to do it. And I refused to hire someone to mow the lawn. But I knew that Pablo would be hungry each night. So every day I threw food into the yard for him.

Every night I threw seven hamburgers into the yard for him because he loved hamburgers. Well, guess who lived next door to me? Brad Pitt! Yeah, Brad Pitt lived next door to me. But Brad Pitt and I did not get along with each other. We didn’t get along with each other because Pablo barked all night long. And Brad Pitt didn’t like that. Brad Pitt was unable to sleep at night. He was unable to sleep at night because Pablo barked all night long.

Well, Brad Pitt wanted me to mow the lawn. He wanted me to mow the lawn because he knew that if I mowed the lawn then Pablo would come into the house and he would not bark at night any more. But I told him that I did not want to cut the lawn. I would not mow the lawn. I would not cut the grass. So Brad Pitt had an idea. He decided to try to bribe me into mowing the lawn. So he told me that he would pay me $2,678 if I would cut the lawn. But you know what? I refused to mow the lawn. I told him I would not mow the lawn. So Brad Pitt was unable to bribe me into mowing the lawn.

Well, that year during the month of July, the weather was very hot. And it had not rained for ten months, a long time. So the grass in my yard was dry as a bone. Well, one day that July a man drove past my house in his car. And the man was smoking a cigarette. And the man did not want the cigarette anymore so he threw the cigarette out of the car. And the cigarette went into my yard. And it was still lit. So guess what happened? The grass in my yard went up in flames, yeah. It went up in flames.

And in just five minutes all of the grass had burned. So there was no grass in my yard. And guess what else burned? My house! My house also burned. But I did not get angry or upset after my house burned, not at all. I was happy. You know why I was happy, excuse me? I was happy because I saw Pablo and he ran to me and he jumped in my arms and he licked my face. So I knew that Pablo was safe. He had not been hurt in the fire. And that’s why I was so happy, because Pablo had not been hurt in the fire.

Well, two months later I bought a new house for Pablo and I to live in. And every Sunday Pablo and I mowed the lawn together.

Okay, so that’s the end of our third point of view story. I hope you enjoyed all these stories because these stories are a very powerful way for you to learn grammar. You just listen to the story and you remember how the story has changed. You know, in one story I told you the story as if it was happening in the present. In another story I told you the story as if it was happening in the future. In another story, Jim Carrey told you the story as if it had happened in the past.

So listen to these stories and you will hear different words being used. So I want you to listen to this lesson every day for at least seven days. You may need to listen to it longer. Remember, deep learning is important. And you will hear how the words change. And this is a very powerful way for you to learn grammar. Okay, that’s all for our point of view lesson. I’ll see you next time.
