1 COP 2551 Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming using Java Getting Started

2 Accessing Your Osprey Account The majority of the Java programming in this course will be accomplished using the Linux operating system on a UNF computer named Osprey. If you have not already set up your account on Osprey, you should do the following: Bring up your favorite browser and click on http://www.unf.edu/dept/its/ http://www.unf.edu/dept/its/ Under “QUICK LINKS TO ” you will find many helpful links. Some that you should definitely look at include: Blackboard Computer Accounts Dial In and Wireless Access E-Mail Help Desk Tech Support Manuals/Handouts Osprey ID Passwords

3 Accessing Blackboard Everything you need for this class other than your textbooks, quizzes and exams will be available on a web-based application named Blackboard. To get started with Blackboard, go to http://blackboard.unf.edu/ and follow the links. http://blackboard.unf.edu/

4 Using Blackboard Once you have logged on Blackboard, select this course, COP 2551, Intro to Object-Oriented Programming. Read any announcements. Look over the information in the following folders: Course Information Staff Information Course Documents Assignments Books Discussion Board External Links

5 Using the Discussion Board Students may enter questions or make comments on this discussion board. Instructor and students may respond to questions and comments. This is the primary means of communicating with your instructor and with other students outside of class. As your instructor, I typically check the discussion board several times a day, including most weekends. However, students should not hesitate to provide answers to questions. Don’t worry about “looking smart” – what you put on the board has no effect on your grade. If there is something you do not understand, chances are that others are having a problem too.

6 So Let’s Get Started This, as most of the courses you will take in the Computer and Information Sciences major, is fast-paced. It is very important that you not get behind. Please don’t overload yourself with other courses and commitments. Note that you have a homework assignment due next class.
