7. Initial assessment It will help identify a learners skills against a level or levels within the national standards for literacy or numeracy. It provides the information needed to decide a starting point for the learner. It is the benchmark from which learning progress can be measured. It can identify learners who may need extra support. Learners should answer as many questions as they can. They can take as long as they like, there are no time limits. If a question is too hard leave it out.
