What are Maths Passports? Maths Passports are a strategy for improving children’s mental maths skills and knowledge of key facts. Progressive, personalised system to promote instant recall. Reinforce lessons and inform parents of key skills Once one continent is completed, the child’s progress is celebrated and they travel to the next continent to work on targets with greater challenge.
6
Passports are based on the continents of the world. There are currently 7 – we will add another for those that finish all 7. 1.Pre-passport 2.Europe 3.Asia 4.Africa 5.Australasia 6.North America 7.South America

How to help at home We would ask that you spend 5 - 10 minutes each day practising your child’s passport skills with them. This could be walking to school, in the car, at teatime, before bed – it doesn’t need to be a sit down, formal time. For most of the skills, you could try the same procedures: eg number bonds to 10, you say 6, your child says 4 eg 3 x times table, you say 3, your child says 9 eg 4+3=? ?+4=7 3+?=7 We will keep two copies of the passport so that we always have one in school. Your child will take a copy home with them. We will complete the passport when the skill is show in a quick check in which your child will need to show they know they can answer instantly or in their work. Teachers are used to this system of assessment but the difference is that they will share this with you much more frequently through the passport.
