2 Inspectors never fail to check the required emergency-egress window from a sleeping room. At least one window in each bedroom must be of sufficient size to permit the occupants to escape a fire and also to allow a fully outfitted firefighter to enter. WINDOW CODES

3 Minimum width of opening: 20 in. Minimum height of opening: 24 in. Minimum net clear opening: 5.7 sq. ft. (5.0 sq. ft. for ground floor). Maximum sill height above floor: 44 in. MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS

4 Each dwelling unit, as a residence is referred to in the codes, must have a minimum of one door that is at least 36” wide and 6’ 8” tall. Any hallway adjacent to that door must also be a minimum of 36”. DOORS

5 All the other door sizes may be determined by the architect. Codes do not mandate that the front doors will be 36” wide; only that one exit door needs to have this dimension MORE DOORS
