Teacher: Mr. Amato AP Environmental Science

In APES you will study topics that include… Energy Waste management Pollution Soil and water quality Ecology Population Global footprint Topics

Good starter AP science course A better knowledge of current events A greater understanding of the balance of nature Knowledge of the “green” phenomenon Outdoor activities Benefits

Gives a good background for other sciences Could lead you to a potential career Gives knowledge that will help you achieve career goals Gives college credit so you can take higher level courses in college. Perhaps you will want to hug a tree Benefits

Environmental Scientists National Parks and Preserves Environmentalist Agriculture and Natural Resource Careers Environmental Engineer Forestry Career Geologist Green Jobs Zoologist Careers Related to the Environmental Science Field

Biologists Mining Engineer Oceanographer Land Management Life Scientist Ecologist Paleontologist Urban and Land Use Planner Waste Management Careers

Curricular Requirements and Goals –The course uses earth science, biology, and chemistry to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. –The course includes methods for analyzing and interpreting information and experimental data, including mathematical calculations.

Curricular Requirements and Goals –The course teaches students how to identify and analyze environmental problems, to evaluate the ecological and human health risks associated with these problems, and to critically examine solutions for resolving or preventing them. –The course includes a laboratory and/or field investigation component. A minimum of one class period or its equivalent per week is spent engaged in laboratory and/or field work (on average).

Curricular Requirements The course and AP test cover the following seven content areas: Earth Systems and Resources (10-15%) The Living World (10-15%) Population (10-15%) Land and Water Use (10-15%) Energy Resources and Consumption (10-15%) Pollution (25-30%) Global Change (10-15%)

Read the text and take notes with vocabulary. Participate in labs. Relate what you are learning to an environmental issue so you can remember it better. Stay organized and keep everything. Share your opinions and take in the opinion of all sides. Strategies for Success

DO WHAT YOU CAN TO UNDERSTAND AND PRESERVE THE PLANET Take AP Environmental Science
