2 Starting a Program. Click on its icon. CPU looks for the executable file on the path of record. Shortcuts: pointers to the program.

3 The Program Is Moved Into RAM. The program is moved into RAM for quick access. The CPU receives the address of the program in RAM, so it can use it.

4 Saving a File. Until you click on “Save,” any changes you have made reside in the RAM. After you click it, the RAM information is backed up to a drive. Q: If the power goes out, what happens to the file in RAM? Why?

6 Investigating File Extensions. Open Windows Explorer. Right-click the file. Choose “Properties.” …OR... Open Windows Explorer. Go to View - Options - File Types.
