3 An object travelling at constant velocity has zero acceleration – Applies to both the state of rest and constant velocity In both cases, there is no change in state of motion because the forces that act on the object are balanced

9 Time to problem solve A 20 kg object is pulled so that it accelerates at 0.80 m/s 2. What is the Force on the object? F = m·a F = (20 kg)(0.8 m/s 2 ) F= 16 kg·m/s 2

10 Two girls are playing with a toy that has a mass of 0.30 kg. One of the girls decides that she wants it and tries to pull it away from the other girl. If girl one pulls on the toy with a horizontal force of 10.0 N and the other girl pulls on the dog with a horizontal force of 11.0 N in the opposite direction. What is the horizontal acceleration of the toy? Knowns : F1 = 10 N F2 = 11 N m = 0.30 kg Equation a = F net /mass
