3 Residential Space Space that can be divided by walls, dividers, or other objects or by none of the above.

4 Amounts of Space Small spaces tend to be cozy and ask for treatments or accessories that do not over power the area.

5 Amounts of Space Too much in a small space such as an over crowded room- gives a feeling of being cramped.

6 Amounts of Space Large areas can give a feeling of aloneness or spaciousness if right décor is chosen

7 Amounts of Space Small rooms can give a feeling of spaciousness if appropriate furniture is selected.

9 Traffic Patterns and Space Assume that your user will always take the shortest path. Design to control the traffic flow.

10 Hallways/Walkways Allow a minimum of 3 feet width for hallways. Avoid creating tunnels or long hallway passages.

11 Hallways/Walkways Provide access to each main area with minimal passing through of other areas.

12 Space With Furniture Allow a minimum of 24 inches passage between furniture.

13 Space with Furniture Allow space for chairs to be moved when seated. There should be adequate space to walk behind chairs.

14 Doors Avoid placing doors that will hit each other when opened or placing something in the way of opening a door.

15 Doors Avoid placing furniture so they will collide with an opened door.

16 Space With Other Elements Don’t block window access or heat vents to the room.
