Jill and Pete’s trip to Argentina May 9-10: fly to Buenos Aires May 14: fly to Iguazu Falls May 16: return to Buenos Aires May 18-19: return home May, 2008

On our first full day in town, they took us to the colorful neighborhood of Boca. The autumn weather was nice and sunny like this for most of our stay in Argentina. We were invited to visit Argentina by our friends Amy and Nicolas. They’re from Montreal and are living for 5 months in Buenos Aires. Here they are applauding tango with 2-yr-old son Nathaniel.

Nati waves hola in the Japanese Garden We stayed in the neighborhood Palermo. We coincidentally chose an apartment across the intersection from Nati’s daycare. Here’s the view from our living room window. Our apartment was cute but the streets were noisy at all hours. Cemetery in Recoleta where rich people are entombed Ecological reserve with pampas grass east of the city center

Here’s a park full of dog packs. Each pack was under the care of a professional dog walker (paseadore de perros), whose job is to walk other people’s dogs. This is a common sight around Buenos Aires. I liked the pack of little dogs with curly white fur. The job itself looked laid back. We often saw the paseadores resting or chatting in the parks. These cats are just a few of many that were resting in the sun outside the Natural History museum. Public school kids wear lab-coat-like uniforms over their regular clothes.

Day trip to the Parana River Delta We rode a train to this serene area north of the city, then took a boat ride. Most of the passengers were local residents. Lunch at a cafe named after a common local bird, El Hornero and saw cute homes on stilts We walked around Tres Bocas village

Iguazu Falls National Park

We saw animals along with the waterfalls in Iguazu. There were lots of black vultures at the falls. Beautiful plush- crested jays (middle) were not shy. We saw a coatimundi (below) near one of the paths. We saw an alligator in the river near the falls. Our shadows (above) are the closest you’ll see to a photo of us on this trip!
