3 2. Keep Safety First No serious injuries – move cars to side of road If can’t move car – remain seated/belted in vehicle. Turn on hazards, flares, safety cones, warning triangles if possible. Wait for help to arrive

4 3. Exchange Information License plate, Make/Model of car, Insurance information, etc.

5 4. Photograph scene/damages to cars & record witness info.

6 5. File a State Vehicle Accident Report A. Police will write up report if they come to the scene. B. May not come unless there are injuries. Do you know how File a report?

7 6. CALL YOUR INSURANCE CARRIER Know beforehand: Does your insurance cover towing, rental cars? Many policies do not – but you can add for only $1 - $2 extra/month. Who pays for damages? Minor accidents/minimal damage = you may agree to pay yourselves, not involve insurance companies. FYI…you may get bill – violator won’t pay. Then what? If you don’t report it – victim may claim injuries later, and you/your insurance may have to pay a settlement later. Your insurance company should know YOUR version.

8 WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES? License, Registration, Insurance Card Pen and paper for note taking Cell phone Camera Flashlight Warning Device (Flares, triangle warning device) Card – stating medical conditions/medical allergies Emergency Contacts and phone numbers for law enforcement agencies.
