2 NARFE MISSION To support legislation beneficial to current and potential federal annuitants and to oppose legislation contrary to their interests To promote the general welfare of current and potential federal annuitants by advising them with respect to their rights under retirement laws and regulations To cooperate with other organizations and associations in furtherance of these general objectives

3 What is NARFE PAC A fund that supports the legislative agenda of NARFE The fund is separate from membership dues which support NARFE staff and member services NARFE PAC funds provide support of key legislators through direct contributions to their campaigns

4 NARFE PAC CONTRIBUTIONS Legislators are reluctant to meet with lobby groups that have not contributed to their campaign NARFE PAC funds are much less than many other organizations so NARFE legislative initiatives must target contributions effectively

5 Keeps NARFE politically relevant Builds relationships with key lawmakers Established connections allows NARFE to be proactive in the legislative process Members of Congress often know NARFE due to NARFE PAC contributions LEGISLATIVE ACCESS IS ESSENTIAL

14 DONATION LEVELS AND INCENTIVES Member contribution $25 - 49 -- basic lapel pin. Member contribution $50 – 99 -- bronze lapel pin. Member contribution $100 - $249 -- silver lapel pin. Member contribution $250 or more -- gold NARFE-PAC lapel pin and a NARFE duffle bag. Members who sign up to provide monthly credit card contributions of $10 or more receive the NARFE-PAC Sustainer lapel pin and a NARFE duffle bag.

15 How to collect donations Use the NARFE PAC Collections forms or magazine coupon Election Commission Rule: collections must be individual contributions not a consolidation of several donations. Use money orders for cash. Refer donor to Collection forms or NARFE brochure for instructions on credit card donations through the web site. Send donations and forms to Federation NARFE PAC Officer who will record them and forward on.

16 Some basic rules Only NARFE members and families may be asked to donate Commercial transactions in fund raising such as garage sales, bake sales, raffles are complex and likely violate the rules. Therefore they are to be avoided. Contributions are all voluntary and are not tax deductable.

17 A couple more rules NARFE PAC contributions are not made in exchange for votes or promises of official legislative acts. Do not discuss their actions in this context or when you visit them for more general discussions. It is the responsibility of the NARFE PAC Board to make the contributions to legislators. If you have an interest you should make a formal recommendation to this Board through the NARFE legislative staff.
