3 Wiesel was fifteen years old when he and his family were deported in May 1944 by the German SS and Hungarian police from his home in Sighet to Auschwitz. His mother and younger sister perished; he and his two older sisters survived. Camps: Buna, Birkenau, Auschwitz, Buchenwald Wiesel was liberated from Buchenwald in April 1945.

4 Night is Elie Wiesel’s account of his life as a teenager in Nazi concentration camps. His memoir addresses these themes: respect for all people attitudes about prejudice, racism, and stereotyping individual responsibility toward oppression and abuse of power
