1 Sport-Ident 102 Barry McCashin Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club Jan 18, 2009 UofA - Biosci © BGMcC 2009 Part 3: Download SI Punches (40 slides)

2 Part 3: Download SI Punches Use OE2003 program Use event that was setup previously with courses and competitors Download info from punches to PC Compare to Course control list Print splits from PC Print Results for posting

3 Competition Day, Read SI cards Note: this is v10.1; current is 10.3 As soon as people start, get ready to download SI Cards on their return

4 Read SI card Activate SI station button This is where all the data is received from the SI punches Time is mmm:ss Print results auto or spool and print later. Auto prints immediately. This should be set “real time”, not zero time This is the panel you have open to download punches V10.3 is Read chips

5 As soon as Start has closed, want to find who has not gone out even though they registered Assume if punched Clear and Start box, they are out on the course not foolproof which is why we keep lists of who started More important at larger events Runners Not Started 1

6 Runners Not Started 2 Will look at all the punches in the Clear and Start boxes after Start has closed. Couple to the Master station using to download SI cards

7 Runners Not Started NB. Need to couple the Check and Start boxes to the Master station and with OE2003 v10.3 and ver7 controls, the coupling is very difficult to get working May need to remove the coupling rod and separate the boxes by 0.215 inches and it might work

8 Runners Not Started 3 These are the punches stored in the Check box Save the list into the event database

9 Runners Not Started 4 After read punches in the Start box. Save this too.

10 Runners Not Started 5 After all boxes read in, select Actions, not started runners

11 Runners Not Started 6 Report based on the Check box list. Don did not Clear before he went out so the Check box would not have beeped (and apparently did not record his punch). Don is on the course.

12 Runners Not Started 7 Can do a report based on the Start box list too

13 Runners Not Started 8 Greg didn’t punch the Start box so is marked Did Not Start (DNS). Don did not Clear his punch before he left so had a Start punch from the previous event on his SI Card. He should have noticed the Start box did not beep when punched (and it did not record his SI number).

14 Runners Not Started 9 So we have two people marked as not starting based on the Check and Start boxes If they do not return, we would not go looking for them This is why we have the start manned and keep a list of who has gone out When they download, the DNS will be removed from their name

15 Missing Runners 1 Looking at the Check and Start boxes, we made a guess at who has started the course No one has finished yet so presume all 10 are still out on the course. We make a “Missing Runners report” to see who is not back This is very important later in the day to find out if you need to mount a search

16 Missing Runners 2 Competition Day, More reports, Missing runners, OK Can keep this open and update. As people return, list gets shorter

17 Normal downloads Rented SI cards: grab them! This is the panel running when people are returning. At intervals, print out the results so far and post them

18 Missed punches Lists what is missing Indicates person is classed as a mis-punch

19 Checking Punches 1 Competition Day; Evaluate SI cards

20 Checking Punches 2 Don got all the expected punches (black) Expected punches for Course 2 Don is OK

21 Checking Punches 3 Expected punches Got one right (black) Missed these ones (magenta) Red punches are not on his course (no penalty for this) Mr Wrong Course has big problems

22 “Start # not found” (this SI# is not entered into the event) Press cancel We don’t usually use a start # Program does not know who this is, their Class or their Course

23 Start # not found 2 will save punch data in a temporary spot Yes,do it

24 Start # not found 3 date save with name Reserve

25 Start # not found 4 look at the Entries list

26 Start # not found 5 can enter the name and Class Two reserve entries, can add their name and class now

27 Start # not found 6 Tom is in and the program will check his punches now that it knows what class and course he was on Enter Tom Turkey <20 Sometimes the error is in the SI number and can correct it here

28 Changing Results 1 Comp day, Evaluate SI cards

29 Changing Results 2 List of SI # and punch data Punches required for course 2 in black Red punches made but not required; Magenta punches expected but not found

30 Changing Results 3 can modify a punch

31 Changing Results 4 Edit box

32 Changing Results 5 Change to 31

33 Changing Results 6 He did visit 31 after all !

34 Deleting Controls from Courses Oskahtak May 2004 Control #211 was ‘moved’ during event; later removed 211 and 215 from all courses Stu found them so they are red (not required)

35 Comp Day, Results

36 Results, SportIdent In v 10.3 this report is called “split times”

37 SportIdent, by class

38 Results SI This is the report people want to see throughout the day; everyone’s split times Can organize by class (as shown here) or by course (or do both). Print and post every 20 minutes or so.

39 Results, Winners

40 End Part 3 Have seen how to download SI punches into OE2003 event Look at Start/Check Stations to see who has not started Deal with competitors not registered Show reports for splits and winners Manual edit some values from the SI punch (I suggest that, if possible, you not do this during an event, wait till get home). Let’s download the Test punches and apply fixes (Exercise 3)
