8 COP Preparation Assistance & Submission A total of six (6) Ghanaian business participants submitted their COP in 2010. These companies were: oGemini Life Insurance Company (GLICO) oAfrican Explosives (GH) Ltd oStandard Chartered Bank Ghana oExcel Courier Ghana Ltd oStanbic Bank Ghana oVolta River Authority(VRA)

11 NEW COP Policy SUMMARY New COP Policy was introduced 1 st February,2011 1. Business participants are required to communicate progress annually with stakeholders While the overall format is flexible, each COP must contain the ff. elements: a) A statement by the Chief Executive expressing continued support & renewing ongoing commitment to the initiative and its principles b) A description of practical actions that the company has taken to implement principles in each of the 4 issue areas. In cases where COP does not address any of the 4 issue areas, an explanation must be provided. c) A measurement of outcomes (i.e. identify the degreeto which targets/performance were met or measurement of results.

12 2.Business participants must submit their annual COP on the GC website A COP must be submitted at the latest 12 months from the date of joining and every 12 months thereafter. Business participants are required to submit an electronic version of their COP preferably a PDF file and if available a link to the webpage that contains the COP Additionally, participants must complete a brief questionnaire capturing the content of their COP Note : Business Participants who joined before 1 July 2009 still have 2 years from their date of joining to submit their first COP.

15 3. Business Participants who submit a timely COP will be classified in one of the three categories. GC Learner : A business participant that has submitted a timely COP but whose COP is missing one or elements listed above. GC General : A business participant that has submitted a timely COP and declares that it meets all the COP requirements. GC Advanced: A business participant that goes beyond the COP requirements and also meets the ff. requirements: 1) Meets all requirement of the GC General level. 2) Implements all 24 advanced criteria in the ff. areas: strategy, governance and engagement; UN goals and issues; implementation of GC principles; value chain implementation and verification and disclosure. 3) Describes implementation of all 24 criteria and associated best practices in the annual COP. 4) Submits a COP on the UNGC website with a statement, signed by a high level rep. of the company declaring that each of the 24 criteria has been met. 5) Completes a self assessment covering the content of the COP and assessing the company’s coverage of the criteria and associated best practices.

16 4. Business participant who fail to submit a COP for two consecutive years will be automatically expelled.
