4 Locate and underline the transitions in the following paragraphs. Through the development of both characters, the Beast and Belle, this theme is easily understandable. In the beginning of the story, the prince answers a knock on his castle door. An ugly, old lady was seeking shelter but he laughed and refused her because of her looks. She turned out to be a witch and cast a spell on him, a spell causing him to remain an ugly beast until someone was able to see through his looks and love him anyway. When Belle comes along, she is frightened of the Beast, just like everyone else is initially. However, during her stay at the castle, Belle learns who the Beast really is and also begins to love him for the person within. In the end of the story, her love for him saves him from the brutal reactions of the people in the village and the spell is broken. Belle did not judge the Beast based on his looks alone. She learned that he had feelings and that he had the ability to be sweet and kind just like any other person. By looking past the scary creature that stood in front of her, she was able to fall in love with him and also teach him the same lesson. This theme is a timeless theme that often occurs in many stories and movies. It is a theme that people all over the world should live by, but we see prejudice acts occur all around us just because of the way a person looks. For instance, children are teased in school because of their clothes or physical features and adults are harassed because of their ethnicity. If we just took the time to get to know people, everyone would learn that looks are not what matters, we are all human and we are all the same inside.
