Spiritual Deception Very harmful Need to be grounded (Colossians 1:23) Bible Study (Ephesians 4:11-16; 2 Timothy 2:15) Earnest desire to know (1 Peter 2:2)

Eve Deceiver: Satan Not to eat of one tree (Genesis 2:17) Both sinned (Genesis 3:6) Terrible consequences (Genesis 3:14-19) Always punishes (Leviticus 10:1-3; 2 Chronicles 13:7-10)

A Prophet Deceiver: Old prophet (1 Kings 13:1-24) Character of the prophet (vv. 1-10) Susceptible to believing a lie (v. 18) Killed for disobedience (vv. 9, 17, 24)

Sincerity Alone Saved by sincerity alone Accepted in other areas like government, medicine, banking, etc. Will not save (Jeremiah 10:23; John 17:17; Galatians 1:6-9) Wasn’t the prophet sincere?

Personal Goodness Personal goodness Just treat people right Be like Cornelius (Acts 10:1, 48; 11:14) Wasn’t the prophet a “good” person?

Faith Only Faith only Just “accept Jesus as your personal savior” Obedience necessary (Mark 16:16; Luke 6:46; Romans 10:9, 10) Faith alone not enough (James 2:17, 24) Didn’t the prophet believe the old prophet?

Today Member of the church Leave the work to others (Philippians 1:27; 2:2) Individual race (Hebrews 12:1) Harms the church (Hebrews 5:11-14)

Conclusion Satan is the source of all lies (John 8:44) Have you believed a lie? Why not obey now?
