Mercy “Pity; compassion; kindness towards the miserable and afflicted, joined with a desire to relieve them.” “Refraining from giving a punishment that is due.”

Mercy Mercy is one of the grandest themes proclaimed by the Scripture.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). Eph 2:1-5

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Pet 1:3

Mercy is not just a disposition God has shown to man… It is also something man should extend to his fellow man. God promises no mercy to him who shows no mercy to others.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Mt 5:7

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and so act, as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy ; mercy triumphs over judgment. Jas 2:10-13

“Years I spent in vanity and pride, Caring not my Lord was crucified; Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.” “Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan, Oh, the grace that brought it down to man; Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary.”

“ Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.” “At Calvary” (Hymns For Worship # 426)

Mercy What God will give to anyone who is willing to submit to and obey His will.

Mercy Forgiven sinners know there is no greater blessing from God. Unforgiven sinners do not yet enjoy what they need the most.

Mercy May our worship this morning remind us just how merciful God has been to us. Join us as we worship the God of mercy.
