Raffles Landing Raffles landed on Singapore. He founded Singapore The people liked him and gained trust in him. 1819

Signing of the 1819 Treaty Raffles signed a treaty for the British to set up a trading Settlement. Tengku Hussein and Temenggong also signed the treaty. Tengku Hussein would get $5,000 Temenggong would get $3,000 1819

The Industrial Revolution This revolution resulted new machines. The machines helped add more and more goods. Workers started to work at factories and not at home. 18 th Century

The Great Depression It made many people lose their job. Many business’ closed down. Singapore started when Europe and Africa’s trading stopped. Everyone was very depressed with no way to get money.

Hong Kong was Ceded to British China fought 2 wars against Britain. China also opened five trading ports. Hong Kong was ceded to Britain. 1842

China Opens Five Ports During wars against British five ports opened in China. The five ports are in Canton, Amoy, Foochow, Ningpo and and Shanghai. This opened Chinese trading in Singapore. 1842

Opening of the Suez Canal It helped all ships get to Europe from Asia. Now trading items and letters would only take about a week. It was a great idea by a French engineer. This route made faster trades. 1869

Opening of the Keppel Harbor The opening of the Keppel Harbor was a big event. Many people visit, even now. The Harbor is on the North-East part of Singapore.

TTS Hospital The hospital was named after Tan Tock Seng. It helped every citizen in Singapore very well. Near 1867

Robberies and Riots As more immigrants came there were more crimes. Law and order became harder Also, the Chinese had 19 th Century
