2 HS Announcements: Friday, March 8 th High School 1.This is a reminder to all high school students that we will be conducting OGT and Practice OGT testing next week – Monday thru Friday. Students taking a test need to bring two sharpened #2 pencils – no mechanical pencils. Calculators will be provided. Sophomores taking the OGT will meet in the cafetorium each day. Freshmen taking the Practice OGT will report to their assigned rooms. Juniors and seniors who have passed all five sections of the OGT will be on a two hour delay schedule and will need to report to first period by 9:45am. 2.If you are interested in trying out for cheerleading for next year, the clinic dates have changed to March 13,14,15 from 5-7:00 with try-outs being held on March 16th at 10:00am. You can pick up information sheets in the office. Also - any girls interested in cheerleading, there will be an open gym Friday night from 5-7:00. Meet outside of the cafetorium. 3.Attention Wrestlers – Equipment turn-in will be Monday at 6:00pm. Please bring all wrestling gear to meet your coaches in the boys high school locker room area at 6:00. The end of season awards ceremony for the Middle School and High School wrestling teams will also be Monday at 7:00 in the Home Ec. Room. Athletes are asked to bring a dessert to share, drinks and table service will be provided. Athletes are expected to attend. 4.Entries for the FCCLA March Safe Driver of the Month are now open. If you are a driver who has had no driving infractions for the month of February, you may enter the drawing in the FCS room through Friday, March 8. The winner will receive an award and will have their photo added to our display in the hall outside the FCS room. 5.Attention Baseball Players – all baseball shirt orders and money are due next Friday to Mrs. Smith in Room 55. 6.Attention Track Athletes – Mandatory track and field practice for high school athletes begins Monday, March 11th. Please meet in the auxiliary gym by 3:00 p.m. and be prepared to go outside. Athletes must have a current physical to participate in practice. 7.If you are on the free or reduced lunch program, you can also get a free or reduced breakfast in the mornings. Cost for reduced breakfast is just 30 cents. Breakfast is served every school day, but not on delay days. A regular price breakfast is $1.10. 8.Attention high school students. Here is another service opportunity for you. Throughout the month of March there will be a box set up in the Cafetorium to collect youth or adult size shoes. This is for Project Sole which is an organization that takes donated shoes and ships them to impoverished areas in Africa. We are looking for the following major brands: Nike, Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Brooks, Reebok, Converse, Sketchers, DC, and Puma. Shoes donated can be dirty, smelly, and worn, but can NOT have holes in the soles. No football cleats, baseball cleats, or sandals please. The collections ends March 22 nd. If you have any questions, see Cole McDaniel. 9.It’s Musical Time – WL-S proudly presents its musical Alice in Wonderland Jr.. March 21-23 in the high school cafetorium. Show times are Thursday March 21st at 7:00 pm, Friday March 22 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday March 23rd at both 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets range from $6-$9 and can be purchased in the high school office beginning Friday, March 8th. Athletics 1.Congratulations to our Sectional Champion and District Runner-Up Boys Basketball Team on a great season. The team lost to Summit Country Day yesterday by a score of 63-49. Leading scorers for WLS were Landon Hormann-21, Max Bailey-11, Travis Mayse-9, and Grant Burden-6. The team finished with a record of 20-6, setting a new school record for wins in a season. Congratulations to our 5 seniors, Coach Hollar, and the entire WLS team on a great season. From Guidance 1.Attention Juniors - Buckeye Boys State applications are available and must be returned to the Guidance office by Monday, March 11 th. Please stop by the guidance office to pick up your application today. 2.The Army National Guard representative will be here during Homeroom periods for sophomores to seniors on Friday, March 8, 2013. Please stop in the Guidance office to sign up to meet with him during your homeroom period. 3.Attention Juniors and Seniors- There will be a College Fair with over 60 colleges and universities on March 18, between the hours of 6:00 and 7:30 pm on the campus of Rhodes State College and the Ohio State University at Lima. The event will be held in the Cook Hall Gymnasium. There will be an Admissions and Financial Aid session held at 5:30 p.m. in Reed Hall Cafeteria. 4.Junior College Planning Night – New Date is next Thursday. Attention juniors: Are you planning to go to a 2-yr or 4-yr college after graduation? Do you know the average tuition amount for a 4-yr public or state institution? Do you know the admission requirements for selective colleges like OSU? Answers to these questions and many others will be given to both juniors and their parents/guardians during our annual Junior College Planning Night on Thursday, March 14. The event starts at 5:30 in the media center. Reps from BGSU, Otterbein, OSU (Lima Campus and Main Campus), Urbana University and Clark State will be here to discus their universities and the types of colleges they represent. Please plan to attend. For Seniors 1.Attention seniors: The WL-S PTO Scholarship is now available in the Guidance Office. Please stop in for more details. 2.Attention seniors!!!! The Logan County Education Foundation Scholarships are now available on their website. The student must live in Logan County to apply for the available scholarships. Please stop by the Guidance office for details. 3.Applications for the Christy Knotts/Ranae Donohoe Scholarship are due to the Guidance office by 10:00am Monday morning. 4.Beth Brown Scholarship applications are also due to the Guidance office by 10:00am on Monday as well.
