2 HS Announcements: Tuesday, Jan. 22 nd High School 1.On Monday, February, 4 from 6:30-8:00 pm, the HS Guidance Office will be sponsoring its annual Post Secondary Education Options Program Mandatory Counseling Meeting in the WL-S Media Center. This is a required information/counseling session for students entering grades 9-12 for the 2013-2014 school year who wish to leave the WLS campus to take college courses while in high school. The second portion of the evening is not required, but rather suggested, for students and parents who wish to know more about the Dual Enrollment Program through Urbana University that is offered to WLS’s juniors and seniors. This option is available for our students who wish to earn both high school and college credit while at WLS without leaving the WLS campus. 2.Students interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine; the 2013 Veterinary Exploration Conference and College Fair will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus on February 23, 2013, and registration is required. Stop by the Guidance office for more information. 3.Students interested in pursuing a Business degree, here is a great opportunity for you during the summer. The Ohio Business Foundation is once again holding 2 Ohio Business Week opportunities to all high school students in Ohio. The dates for this year’s Ohio Business Weeks are June 23-29 at Ohio Dominican University and July 28-August 3 to be held at Youngstown State University. The deadline to apply will be February 28. If you are interested, stop by the Guidance office for an application and more information. 4.Attention NHS members – the next NHS meeting will be Wednesday, January 23 rd in room 55 during homeroom. 5.Attention softball girls. Any high school girl interested in playing softball this year, there is a sign up sheet in the office on the counter. If you are not in a current sport, plan to come to the first open gym on Jan 24th from 7-8:30. Bring your glove, bat, and gym shoes. Also - optional weightlifting and conditioning training with Aaron Bair is now available after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. 6.If you are interested in being a part of the musical CREW, please see Mrs. Beikert this week during lunch and fill out a form while there are still a few spots available. 7.Hesston College will be here this Wednesday during JR/SR homeroom to talk to any high school student in the media center. Please sign up in the guidance office. 8.The Quick Recall team kept their regular season title hopes alive by beating Greeneview Thursday evening by a score of 190-140. The leading scorers were Matt Kauffman, Alex Adams and Rebekkah Gresh. The team finishes the regular season at Mechanicsburg. Good Luck Tigers! 9.The high school talent show will take place on Friday, February 8th. Please see Mr. Lamb if you have any questions regarding the talent show. 10.The following juniors need to report to the guidance office after announcements: Elizabeth Hance, Mollie Etgen, Rose Yoder, Taylor Day, Sarah Landis, Anna Naderer. For Seniors 1.Attention seniors interested in Sinclair Community College. Scholarship opportunity information for Sinclair is now available in the Guidance office. Please stop by for more information. 2.Are you interested in applying for the Franklin B. Walters All-Scholastic Award? If so, the application and required documents are due in the HS Guidance Office by January 22, 2013. Stop by HS Guidance to pick up an application. 3.The Pioneer Electric Coop Scholarship is now available. Your parents need to be Pioneer Electric customers to qualify. First place scholarship amount is $2,000 and second place received $1,500. Please stop in the Guidance office for more information. 4.The Christy Knotts & Ranae Donohoe Scholarship application is now available in the Guidance office. The deadline to return the scholarship application to the Guidance office will be March 8th. 5.The Ohio State University Lima Rudd Scholarship is now due on February 15th. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and have applied to OSU Lima for admission. 6.There are two new scholarships now available in the Guidance office. * The Buick Achievers Scholarship is open to any student attending a 4-year college and focusing on Engineering/Technology or Design and Business related programs of study. The application must be filled out online and the deadline is February 28, 2013. * Stolly Insurance Succeed Scholarship is open to any senior that will be attending a 2 or 4 year college. The application is available in the Guidance office and the deadline for the application and essay will be February 13th, to the Guidance office. HS Athletics 1.On Thursday, the varsity girls lost to Urbana 66-51. Melany Ward scored 26 points. Maria Daulton had 8 and Taylor Day had 6. 2.On Friday, the JV Boys defeated Southeastern by a score of 36-29. Ross Kelley had 10 points. The varsity boys defeated Southeastern by a score of 53-35. Landon Hormann had 18, Travis Mayse had 16 and Max Bailey had 13. 3.On Saturday, the varsity girls lost to Southeastern 43-38 in overtime. Melany Ward had 13 points and Maria Daulton had 10.
