1 Chapter 15 & 16  Introduction to the Cold War  As you read Ch 15-1, do the following: A. The Roots of the Cold War  - For each blue section take Cornell notes.  B. The Iron Curtain Descends -Create a political cartoon to illustrate a point of view on post-WWII Europe C. The United States Responds  - Create a 6 frame comic strip that explains what happened in this section  D. The Crisis in Berlin -Summarize this red section in 30 words or less E. Causes of the Cold War - Copy the cause and effect chart from page 465/ - Pick the two most significant causes of the Cold War and explain why you feel they had the greatest impact

After you have read the event, write a list of bullet points/explanations which answers the following question:  Based on the reading, how did this event contribute to the development of the Cold War?  Repeat for Events A-E.

3  Activity 2: Choose one event and create a news broadcast from the time period that would have reported on the significance of the development.

Write an explanation for how President Roosevelt and Truman have helped you in each of the following areas:  A. One of your war buddies is interested in going to school and getting a job. How have the actions of President Truman increased his chances of getting a job.  B. After going to college you are looking to get a job. How will the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act affect your rights as a worker?  C. You are a member of the armed forces. What has Truman done to ensure equality for minorities in the armed forces?  D. You are looking forward to voting in a national election for the first time. Explain Truman’s chances of getting elected and the final outcome of the 1948 election.  E. You are in favor of the U.S. staying out of war if possible. Explain how the establishment of the U.N. Will promote a better world.

Then create a political cartoon that depicts a point of view about this issue.  1.3 B. As you read about Anti-Communist Sentiment in America complete the following:  What does this mean?Examples/Explain  1. Political Discourse  2. Lawmaking  3. Education  4. The Film Industry  1.3 C  - take notes on the fall or end of McCarthyism. Then create a political cartoon that depicts a point of view about this issue.

8 BATTLE MAP ACTIVITY (LESSON 4: The Korean War) On your poster board, to the best of your ability, draw the map of Korea using pg 484 in your book. Then include each of the below on your map.  1. label all Korean cities, rivers, seas, China, Soviet Union, Japan, armistice line of July 1953   2. Create a time-line at the bottom of your poster which highlights the major events that led to war, and the major events/fighting during the conflict.  3. Label the following invasions or battles on your map A. North Korean’s 1st offensive invasion  B. Allied counter offensive to push back the invasion (2 parts)  C. label the Chinese entry into the war  4. In your notebook, under activity 1, explain the military moves made by each side above as well as the results and impact of the war.

For each term below, write a description of how American Foreign Policy was being affected in the 1950s. Then, write a description of what is going on today with respect to that same issue. Activity 2: Complete the document-based Investigation on pp 516 and 517. Answer questions 1a. Thru 3 b. Activity 3: Look at the Visual Summary of the 1950s on pp 518. Write a paragraph summarizing the most significant aspects of the 1950s at home and around the world. Use Ch 15 and 16 for specifics.
