Experimented with drugs (LSD, Pot, Cocaine)

4. Characteristics of the Counterculture: Fashion changed – dashikis, jeans, afros, tie-dye shirts, long hair and beards. Religion – Many people lost confidence in the ability of established churches to provide spiritual direction. Religion is less important to more people at this time. POP art – art made popular by Andy Warhol. It focused on pop culture and popular fads of the time. Music – The British Invasion. Hugely popular music by British bands such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the Who.

5. Music continued: Electric Guitar is being used – Jimi Hendrix Folk music rises in popularity thanks to Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Rock music is the music of the counterculture. Woodstock – August 1969 rock concert in New York that had many of the best bands of the day playing. Lasted for three straight days, all day. Symbolic of hippies celebrating peace and love. Motown – Record company in Detroit that signed African- American Artists such as: James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
