4 What is seen and heard? n Everything! n Teacher can see and hear students and facilitator n Students and facilitator can see and hear teacher

6 The distance learning systems… n provide "live" instruction n can be fully interactive n are multi-media rich

7 Certain standards are expected of students enrolling in these courses

8 As a student taking a Distance Learning Course, I agree to the following:

9 “Normal” Expectations n behavior n materials n staying on task n dress codes

10 “Different” Expectations n I will sit within the camera view at all times. n If this is a college course, I will be responsible for any college fees incurred.

11 “Different” Expectations continued.. n If I am taking a college course and I am suspended, placed in an alternative program, or expelled, I MAY lose college credit.

12 “Different” Expectations continued.. n I must attend classes based on the providing school's schedule and make up work/tests when absent.

13 “Different” Expectations continued.. n If I am taking a college course, I will obtain information about the institution's academic calendar and adhere to the institution's policies and procedures.

14 “Different” Expectations continued.. n Viewing of classes that are videotaped is for instructional purposes only and tapes may or may not be available.

15 “Different” Expectations continued.. n I must obtain the instructor's permission before audio taping classes.

16 Distance Learning Waiver My voice, physical presence, and participation in activities will be transmitted to distance learning sites and may be taped for future use in an educational setting. I hereby agree that

17 Distance Learning Waiver cont. transmission and taping of my voice, presence, and participation in these events will not be a violation of my personal rights and hereby release any claims for use of such.

22 Facilitator Responsibilities n Providing technical as well as non- technical assistance to the teachers/presenters. n Configuring the distance learning room for each class/event to accommodate participation n Notifying appropriate RETN personnel of problems with the system

23 Facilitator Responsibilities n Turning the equipment on/off as needed n Troubleshooting videoconferencing equipment/software as needed n Assisting students in the use of the system (microphones, cameras, etc.)

24 Facilitator Responsibilities n Training back-up facilitators as appropriate/needed n Providing RETN personnel with requested information n Coordinating use of distance learning room with your RETN Site Manager

25 Teacher Requests n It is helpful if facilitators stay in view n Stress to students that they must behave as if the teacher is in the room with them - don’t let them “hide” behind the technology n Make sure you have a back-up facilitator - you might want to call the teacher if you will be out.

26 Teacher Requests cont. n Keep a fax log sheet, i.e. what you sent, # of pages, and when. n You might want to mail/fax things at a set time. n Share all of your contact information with the teacher. Email is essential! n Leave the room for EMERGENCIES only

27 Forms/Documents n Acknowledgement of Guidelines –Counselor/principal –Send back to Gerri n Student/Parent Contract –Parent, student, counselor/principal –Keep on file at your location
