2 1990 - World Wide Web ❖ Invented by Tim Berners-Lee ❖ Search up information like the current events around the world with a computer ❖ Composed of internet servers that can share and provide audio, text, graphic, and document files through hypertext links ❖ important tool used to interact with billions of people

3 1995 - DVD ❖ Also known as the digital versatile discs ❖ Plastic discs that are inserted and read by the computer ❖ Stores video, game, audio, and data storage applications ❖ replaced the VHS tapes and the laserdiscs ❖ Created a larger game industry because the DVD can store a large game application in one disc

4 1995 - Java Programming Language ❖ Designed by James Gosling ❖ A programming language that is used to write computer instructions ➢ create applications ❖ Easier to read and write since it’s based on english ❖ Written computer instructions can be translated into numerical codes for the computer to understand and execute.

5 1997 ❖ November 10, 1997- Netflix becomes a domain, founded by Reed Hastings & Marc Randolph. Originally the site offers dvd rentals through the mail ❖ 1999- They launch a subscription service for unlimited dvd movie rentals. ❖ 2000- Netflix is relatively unsuccessful and at this time, only has 300,000 subscribers. They offer to sell blockbuster a 49% stake, and change their name, but the offer is declined. ❖ 2007- Netflix launches its streaming service, allowing users to watch shows instantly ❖ Nowadays, Netflix has 50 million subscribers of its streaming service and original programing, while Blockbuster is out of business.

6 1998 ❖ Google is a multinational organization built around the company's extremely popular search engine. ❖ It’s a search engine that can present and organize a list of results matching your query. The engine is a large index that tells you where something is exactly located. ❖ Google also works with Internet analytics, cloud computing, advertising technologies, web app, browser and operating system development.

8 Sergey Brin & Larry Page The two originally met at Stanford as grad students in 1995, when Brin was assigned to show Page around campus. A year later the two worked together on a project called Backrub, which analysed backlinks and used them to determine a site’s importance. Soon this project uses up all of Stanford’s bandwidth, and the two max out credit cards to buy a terabyte and start a business plan. Google is registered as a domain on September 15, 1997, the name a reference to the number Googol. They first start working out of a Menlo Park garage, and in 1998 Google becomes an incorporation.

9 1999 - Bluetooth ❖ Allows various devices to connect to each other wirelessly ❖ It uses radio waves to exchange data and communicate with other devices over short distances by creating a channel for the two devices ❖ First major use was to connect a headset to a mobile phone without wires ❖ A low cost module that has fast data transfer rates and great flexibility

11 Important People: Tim Berners Lee ❖ English computer scientist ❖ invented the The World Wide Web ❖ Fast and easy sharing of information across the world ❖ Tim Berners Lee became more well-known in the 1990s for his invention ➢ More than 2 billion people use the internet today
