Complutense / CNB-CSIC / bioAlma / bioforum) 3rd edition 600 h (370 teaching + Training for >4 weeks in research labs 30 / 20 students (mostly biologists, some working as programmers, a degree in Science or Engineering is required) teachers are “All” Spanish scientists in this area + 6 invited foreign speakers

Complutense / CNB-CSIC / bioAlma / bioforum) Teaching Programme (overlapping modules) Basic Perl programming and DB (handling) Basic genomics and proteomics (after rehearsal of biology) Algorithms and methods (text mining) Sequences and genome analysis (functional site prediction) Structural bioinformatics and small molecules Systems biology (metabolism modelling) - Strong emphasis on collaborative practical work - Material presentations, lessons and practical on the web, book? -

Complutense / CNB-CSIC / bioAlma / bioforum) Problems We have to follow the University rules – 50% teachers from the university – cost is high (180.000 € ) – conditions are not always optimal Difficulty in appointing a person directly responsible for the Master ‘s course Students mixed background and expectations Good scientist are not necessarily good teachers … We do not quite satisfy the needs of the local industry
