2 Introduction TO: Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Presiding Prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District; Mrs. Mary Kirkland, Episcopal supervisor; Dr. Willie Glover, Connectional Lay President; Connectional Officers; Mr. Simeon Rhoden, President, Fifth Episcopal District Lay Organization; Fifth District Lay Officers; Presiding Elders; Pastors; Members of the Clergy; Delegates; Visitors and Friends “Humble yourself before the Lord and He will exalt you” James 4:10. This is my report as being the 5 th District Lay Second Vice President. As stated in the Connectional Lay Organization Constitution & By-Laws part of my responsibility is to compose suggestions and formulate plans relating to strategic planning documental statements for the organization’s objectives and future goals. I have been compiling a 2014-2015 Strategic Planner Calendar to incorporate calendar dates for the 5 th District Lay Organization and the six Conference Lay Organization showing their current officers and contact information in addition to their yearly calendar activities. Strategic Planning encompasses and overlapping other officer’s position since it relates to all aspect of the organization which includes, but not limited to training, evangelism and programming planning. The purpose of Strategic Planning is an organizational management activity that is used to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations for working toward common goals, establish agreement around intended outcomes and results in addition to assess and adjust the organization’s direction in response to a changing environment. It is a disciplined effort that produces fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, who it serves, what it does and why it does it with a focus on the future plans. It includes the vision and declaration of the President too as it response to confirming the goals and objectives of the lay organization to focus the effectiveness regarding future endeavors. Effective strategic planning articulates not only where an organization is going and the actions needed to make progress, but also how it will know if it is successful or not in the planning stages. A strategic plan is a document used to communicate with the organization’s goals, the action needed to achieve these goals and all of the other critical elements during the developmental procedures in the course of the planning stage as the process continues to support in the visions set forth by the organization’s objectives, purpose and intentions.

3 Major Activities My major activities were to produce a strategic planner calendar as requested by President Simeon Rhoden. The strategic planner calendar would have a list of all officer’s names, contact information and email addresses in addition to activities for July 2014 until December 2015 of the 5 th District Lay Organization, California Conference Lay Organization, Desert Mountain Conference Lay Organization, Midwest Conference Lay Organization, Missouri Conference Lay Organization, Pacific Northwest Conference Lay Organization and Southern California Conference Lay Organization. The purpose of the strategic planner is to be able to contact persons in your related position to pursue ideas and to formulate a connection with persons in your same arena of interest.

4 Major Meetings Attended the following Strategic Planning Meetings August 29, 2013 Biennial Lay Convention August 30, 2013 Biennial Lay Convention August 31, 2013 Biennial Lay Convention Continue working on the Strategic Planning Committee during the Connectional Lay Organization 34 th Biennial Lay Convention in 2015.

5 Future Plans The short term goals I would like to present are as follows: The support of the total membership to be involved with the training opportunities as being presented by the 5 th District Director Of Lay Activities during Midyear Convocation and the 5 th District Lay Organization Convention for the dissemination of training documents to the Conference Directors Of Lay Activities as training focuses to their membership in their conference. The increasing of outreach program activities by the 5 th District Lay Organization in each conference to increase evangelism program designed for the purpose of increasing membership at the local church in addition to increase membership on the conference and district levels. The focusing on spiritual education of the Bible within the 5 th District Lay Organization with more emphasis on personal evangelism and studying of God’s Word. To process evaluation results of the 5 th District Lay Organization Convention by conference call immediately following the convention to ensure continued success for future conventions. To produce a Strategic Planner Calendar that includes data on the 5 th District Lay Organization and the six Conference Lay Organizations. The long term goals I would like to present are as follows: To start an investment project plan proposal for the 5 th District Lay Organization such as the 5 th District Lay Organization 300 Covenant Membership Fund. To increase feedback from the Young Adults throughout the conferences by having them to serve on committees as chairperson and on the Executive Board so that they can be mentored into these chairperson positions. To generate the increased dollars for awarding scholarships in each conference. To focus on the environmental changes in which the organization will be planning and establishing the dynamic plans for the future as the vitality of the organization proceeds. To generate a greater involvement and advocacy for the support of Social Action initiatives. To seek support from corporate source sponsorship within the 5 th Episcopal District to assist the organization in self-empowerment provision so that we will no longer have to rely on assistance from the Bishop.

6 Recommendations Long Term Goal The 5 th District Lay Organization 300 Covenant Membership Fund the following procedure as $300.00 now or $25.00 per month for twelve (12) starting in July 2014 for those members that would like to contribute monthly. Financial Secretary will keep a record of contributors to this fund. A certificate will be presented at the Awards Banquet program to all who have met their $300.00 covenant commitment. A separate investment banking fund shall be set up for all monies received in a long term CD or a fund account to get the best interest possibly. These funds shall not be used in the operation budget of the 5 th District Lay Organization.
