2 Getting Started Delete all Titles without copies Delete missing items for 2-3 or more years Delete Lost copies for 2-3 or more years Revise Call Number Prefixes to standard District List Weed the collection Delete outdated equipment

3 MARC Records for Books Order books pre-processed Use Library of Congress for downloading records Search by ISBN# to locate correct record Remember to remove 900 tags Use SunLink if you can locate a complete record Do not enter the call number in the 900 tag Call numbers are entered in the copy record Do not put hardback & paperback books on the same record.

4 AV MARC Records Use correct Call Number Prefixes Use the correct Leader tag SunLink has some very good records. You need to search for the most complete record that matches your item. You can edit the information if you need to make changes to a record that is a close match. If you change the call number in your database, you need to change the call number on the item to match it.

5 Equipment MARC Records All equipment titles in the MARC record need to start with the Type listed on the handout – Equipment- Local Call # INFO. Example: Camera, Digital Video Example: Overhead Projector Example: Microphones The Type is followed by the Model Name Example: Overhead Projector, 3M Example: Camera, Digital Video, Sony

6 Equipment MARC Records The model name is followed by the Model Number If it is an Overhead Projector – the bulb type is listed next Example: Overhead Projector, 3M, Model 1800, ENX- Bulb Example: Camera, Digital Video, Panasonic, Model PV- GS500 Example: Carts, H Wilson, Model WT34E Example: Boom Box, EIKI-CD Combo, Model 7070A

7 Equipment MARC Records Do not add any other information in the MARC record. County Inventory Number, Serial Number, Model number, Price and Vendor are put in the Copy information – NOT IN THE MARC RECORD. Add any additional information you need in edit Copy, as a Copy Note or Circulation Note. You can put your Description information in any order you want.

9 Equipment MARC Records All the important information to identify the equipment is on the title line. All identical equipment will be added to the same MARC record using Add Copy Copy Information is the location for information unique to that copy – serial number, etc. This will keep all equipment in the same format for the merge to Destiny.

10 Equipment MARC Records Create a new MARC record for each Type, Model Name and Model Number of your equipment Add the correct copy information for each MARC record You can use the Book Cart and Merge feature if you do not have county inventory numbers and serial numbers in your MARC records.

11 Editing Leader Information To Edit the leader – Open the full MARC record On the Menu Bar – click on Tag Select Edit Leader At Record Type – use the drop down arrow to select the appropriate leader
