5 EE/CS 480 Fall 2007 5September, 2007 University of Portland School of Engineering Scorecard Researched accessing a serial port using C or Java. Wrote code to access a serial port using C or Java (but did not test or debug). Had the functional specification approved by Brian Olsen (industry rep).

6 EE/CS 480 Fall 2007 6September, 2007 University of Portland School of Engineering Additional Accomplishments Completed the rough draft (0.9) of the Project Plan. Found that aluminum foil will block the signal from the reader to the tag. Successfully setup a server and webpage.

7 EE/CS 480 Fall 2007 7September, 2007 University of Portland School of Engineering Plans Test and debug program that accesses the RS-232 port. Get our Project Plan approved by both Dr. Vegdahl and Brian Olsen. Successfully gather data from the RFID reader via the RS-232 access program in a format that can be manipulated by another program that we will create to save data into the database.

10 EE/CS 480 Fall 2007 10September, 2007 University of Portland School of Engineering Conclusions Schedule is in place for the RFID SMS, but is awaiting approval. The group will continue working on the Project Plan revisions. The plans for next month mainly involve testing and debugging the RS-232 program and getting the data from the program into a format such that the data can be processed. Questions?
