3. Folliculitis  Folliculitis is an inflammation of hair follicles.  Folliculitis can occur anywhere on the body.  Most commonly forms when hairs are damaged by friction from clothing.

Causes FFolliculitis forms when hair is damaged from friction in clothing. FFollicles can also be formed by insect bites. BBlockage of the follicles is another main cause. FFor men it can also form from shaving. For girls it can form from too tight of braids too close to the scalp. IIn most cases damaged follicles then become infected with bacteria

5. Symptoms  The most common symptom is a rash, itching will most likely follow. Pimples or pustules near a hair follicle in the neck groin or genital area. The pimples may crust over.

6. Treatments  Hot moist compression may promote drainage of the infected follicles.  Antibiotics may be applied to the affected areas or may be taken by mouth.  Depending on the severity of your folliculitis you may have to take antifungal medicines.

7. Prevention  To prevent further damage to the hair follicles and infection:  Reduce friction from clothing  Avoid shaving the area if possible (if shaving is necessary, use a clean, new razor blade or an electric razor each time  Keep the area clean  Avoid contaminated clothing and washcloths
