3 What is the GTCE? Set up in 2001 –Independent professional body for teaching 3 main roles –Register –Regulate –Advise Additionally the GTCE awards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

4 Who needs to register with the GTCE? Two types of registration –Full Qualified Teachers (564045) –Provisional Trainee Teachers (49363) Overseas Trained Teachers (4590) Instructors (8111) (Figures from Jan 2010)

7 Information on Science Teachers The GTC does not specifically segregate teachers with science specialism's however information is available on; –First/initial degree subjects –Teacher training subject specialism’s ( With over two thousand of degree subject classifications of which over 300 are science related and over 60 science related science related teaching subject specialism’s the following slides do carry a health warning)
