3 What Is Title I? Federally funded program based upon percentage of free and reduced lunch students (80.88%) Provides supplemental instruction in reading or math to help students achieve success with Common Core State Standards in order for our students to be college and career ready Collaborative in-class model provides small group and one-on-one instruction

4 How Do Title I Paraprofessionals Support Instruction? Model fluent reading and think-aloud strategies while reading to students Listen to students read aloud Share nursery rhymes/age appropriate poems, have students identify rhymes Practice blending/segmenting Use rubber stamps, picture cards and other materials to foster phonemic awareness Play age appropriate reading games Conduct speed drills with flash cards or wrap-ups

5 More Paraprofessional Support: Guide students in Edmark software or print lessons Practice activities in the Month-by-Month phonics series Conduct sight word drills Help students edit and revise writing Guide students in creating graphic organizers for content- area reading Provide supplemental activities with math manipulatives Practice Touch Math techniques Supervise students while the teacher meets with individuals or small groups for reteaching, remediation or assessment.

6 How Will Student Progress Be Monitored? FAIR On-going progress monitoring forms Fast ForWord READ 180 progress reports SRI STAR tests Successful completion of class work Teacher/staff observations Benchmark Testing

7 How is Title I Coordinated With Other School Programs? No student may be excluded based upon class assignment or participation in other programs. ESL students may receive extra help in developing language skills and vocabulary. ESE students will receive appropriate instruction based upon individual needs. Cooperative planning between ESL, ESE and Title I staff will target specific areas for supplemental instruction.

8 How Does the Title I Program Support the School Improvement Plan? Provides instruction in the five major components of reading competency Provides non-fiction reading materials at the appropriate reading level Provides a variety of resources to teach writing skills Sponsors a comprehensive parent involvement program

9 What About Parent Involvement? The Title I staff will include a Family School Liaison A parent resource room is available for parents to check out materials for home use. Monthly activity packets will be sent home to encourage meaningful parent/child interactions. Math, Science and Reading workshops will be coordinated for parents of all students. FCAT nights will be offered for third through fifth grade parents.

11 What Help Is Available to Students After School Hours? After school Academic Assistance

12 How Will Title I Funds Be Spent? Eighty percent of Title I funds are allocated to salaries. One percent of funds spent on parent involvement activities. Ten percent of funds are spent on staff development and writing teams. Materials and supplies purchased with Title I funds must support scientifically research based programs and materials

13 In Conclusion… The goal of the Title I program is to provide meaningful learning opportunities to students who need extra support so every child can experience success at school.
