Death By Pop Rocks? By: Kelsey Ryan & Isela Saucedo

2 Question? Will eating pop rock and then drinking Coca-cola really make your stomach explode?

3 Hypothesis If we put pop rocks in cola and but a balloon on top to collect the air, then the balloon will not expand much, because pop rocks have very little carbonation.

4 Materials 3 small cola plastic bottles (a little taken out for a constant amount) 7 packets of pop rocks (strawberry) Measuring tape 3 Balloons

5 Procedures Get materials together Uncap one of the Coca-cola bottles
Pour desired amount of pop rock in to the balloon Secure balloon over top of bottle Turn balloon so it pours contents into bottle Record the growth of the balloon Repeat steps 2 -6 for the other 2 trails

6 Data Trail 1- one packet of pop rocks
Balloon grew to 5 inches around Trail 2- Two packets of pop rocks Balloon grew to 9 ½ inches around Trail 3- Three packets of pop rocks Balloon grew to 11 ½ inches around On average the adult stomach holds about 2 liters.

7 Conclusion We found that pop rock don’t have even close to enough carbonation to explode your stomach. If anything you could get a bad stomach ache from eating a very large amount. But you would have to eat a lot of packets to even get a good burp. Because pop rocks only have 1/10 of the amount of carbonation that soda has.
