4 4 Basic Facts about Accreditation Accreditation is a voluntary process of self evaluation and peer evaluation that has two fundamental purposes: quality assurance, and quality improvement. The two types of voluntary accreditation are institutional accreditation [whole institution] specialized accreditation [specific program].
