3 Counterculture Counterculture = young Americans in 60s “challenging the system” – AKA “hippies” Hippie Culture Originally = rebellion against dominant culture Later = long hair, Native American headbands, cowboy boots etc. Live together at communes Haight-Ashbury district = popular hippie destination in San Francisco
