Devoted to subjects of leisure, the upper middle class, the city, and city dwellers on holiday in the countryside. Leading impressionist artists were Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir. IMPRESSIONISM (1863-1887)
